Deliveroo is exploring a new approach to ensure price consistency between in-app and in-store menus by asking riders to photograph menus during pickups. This initiative is part of an updated courier agreement and aims to monitor and reduce discrepancies, ensuring better value for customers. Riders would be compensated for these photos, though participation is optional. The move aligns with Deliveroo's Value Programme, which penalizes restaurants with high markups and rewards those offering good value. However, this has sparked debate among restaurant owners concerned about maintaining profit margins.
“It’s a low margin industry, the higher prices [on Deliveroo] covers the commission,” explained restaurant business consultant Damian Wawrzyniak. “If you have to drop the price on the apps, you lose the margin, it’s crazy. And if you put up prices in your restaurant then you’ll lose those customers.
